While in Melbourne before Christmas, Anthony showed me some works by US artist Josh Agle AKA SHAG. I started reasearching his work and found that I really love his use of colour, the depth and balance, fabulous retro interiors and sense of humour.
His website quotes: ’The paintings themselves celebrate consumerism and consumption on vividly colored, sharply rendered panels; the characters drink, smoke and eat in lavish, stylish surroundings.’
I think it’s important to surround yourself with images and objects you enjoy as a reminder to not take life too seriously both at home and in the workplace. I tend to get anxious about things and these little reminders are essential in bringing me back into focus.
My first SHAG serigraph (signed, of course!) arrived yesterday – so exciting! It is an homage to Edourd Manet’s Luncheon on the Grass. I admit, I’m a bit of an art history nerd, so this particular print really appealed to me!
My second one will arrive any day now! We are looking at doing some serious house renovations this year and I’m thinking about turning our dining room into a SHAG gallery – that’s not as bad as it sounds;-)!
